I got a chance to participate in an organic agriculture expo in Patan, Nepal. I was representing Healing Herbs Nepal Pvt. Ltd. with an organic certified novel product called Yacon syrup.
Some things that I learned during the 4-day expo was interesting!
In consumers’ perception, at least two misunderstandings are still exists: (a) agriculture production in Nepal are so called organic; and (b) organic products are expensive and not affordable for daily life.
Naturally, investors always expect quick return of investment and profit within a short period time and export to developed countries assured it. But, they seldom think that local markets are the most reliable than international markets.
The policy makers, the most ridiculous things for me is, they always do talk about the export but do not think that we local people also should get healthy and hygienic foods produced locally.
Let produce organic foods and assures local consumers, the local people feed first, then seek global markets!
