How Rich are We in Ayurveda?

(1) In 18th century: When Jang Bahadur Rana – the founder of Rana dynasty- visited Great Briain, a traditional healer was along with him “as a Doctor” for his health care. (as said by one of the Ayurveda physicians)

(2) During Second World War: Ayurveda drug produced by Singh Durbar Vaidhya Khana- a state run 350 year old Ayurveda drug manufacturing company of Nepal- used to be supplied to Myanmar for health care of armies. (as said by one of the Ayurveda physicians)

(3) 400,000: estimated numbers of traditional healers in this country. Real repository of indigenous medical knowledge and its resources. History of several generations as profession of traditional healing. Knowledge and practices has been refined and passing down to next generation since the time immemorial.

(4) 1100: Ancient Ayurveda related texts preserved in National Archive (Verbal information from an officer of National Archive). Manuscripts written in bark, leave, locally made papers in various language (Nepali, Sanskrit, Maithili, Newari, etc). Rich in information about disease, drug, dosage, nutrition, and behavior for healthy body and happy mind.. Larger numbers of families, private as well as government organization may have significant numbers of such valuable ancient manuscripts and texts.

(5) 700: Numbers of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants species lodged in this country. Although it is official data reported several ears ago. Now scientists say it is more than 1600. Some claims more than 3500 species. (Referred from different article)
