A study conducted by Nepal Health Research Council (2012/13) in 7 VDCs and 1 municipality of Chitawan interacting 30-35 traditional healers reported that 109 plants species have been using as medicine either sole plant or as an ingredient of a composition. Among them, 97 seven were identified by scientific names based on vernacular names. Among 97, only 68 are enlisted as medicinal plants of Nepal as published by Department of Plants Resources/GoN.
This is an example. There are significant numbers of such studies that explored plant species used as medicine at local level. However, they are not included in the official list of medicinal plants and aromatic plants of Nepal.
I am confused, what is medicinal plant? Is there any specific criterias to be included in national documentation or state has not reached the eyes to all such research reports?
